Press Release DCE G-Rex-PCI - 22.09.2000

We from DCE, leading manufacturer of accelerator boards and accessories in the Amiga market, are glad to announce to the Amiga community that we can satisfy the want for faster graphics boards, good and cheap sound cards, as well as PCI ethernet network cards.

With G-REX PCI, we present a solution for the existing PPC boards (BlizzardPPC and CyberstormPPC), as well as the Cyberstorm Mk III and Blizzard NG. By the direct use of the PPC bus we are capable of delivering the currently highest data transfer speed on the Amiga for a PCI interface. Fast graphics cards, like for example the Voodoo 3, will benefit from the resulting speed gains compared to other solutions.

Here a short overview of the technical data:

  • Four PCI slots
  • Direct PPC access to the PCI slots
  • Address space of 256 MB accessible in one chunk (no waste of ressources through bank-switching)
  • DMA- und Burst capability e.g. for: USB, network, sound and current graphics cards
  • CyberGraphX driver by Frank Mariak for Voodoo 3 and graphics cards with S3 chip. In addition, there will be an extremely cheap Permedia 2 PCI graphics card from DCE.
  • Speed benefit of the Voodoo 3 with G-REX PCI compared to CyberVisionPPC: Factor 4-5 in 2D

The following variants will be available:

For all Amiga 4000 desktop models with CyberstormPPC/Mk III. Newly constructed daughterboard with 4 PCI slots, 1 video slot and 4 Zorro-II/III slots

For all Amiga 3000(T)/4000(T) with CyberstormPPC/Mk III. Adapter board with one PCI slot (especially for the use of the Voodoo 3 board).

G-REX PCI 1200
For all Amiga 1200 (built into Infinitiv-, EZ- or Winner-Tower) with BlizzardPPC/NG. Four PCI slots.
